On Tuesday, June 15, at 2:30 p.m., the Thomaston Public Library’s Intergenerational Book Club will move to a hybrid format. Book club members have the option to join through Zoom or meet in person to discuss The house in the sky-blue sea by TJ Klune.

From the publisher:

“A magical island. A dangerous job. A burning secret.

“Linus Baker leads a quiet, lonely life. At forty, he lives in a tiny house with a sneaky cat and his old records. As a clerk in the Department of Magical Youth, he spends his days overseeing the welfare of children in government-approved orphanages.

“When Linus is unexpectedly called by Extremely Upper Management, he gets a strange and top secret assignment: Travel to the Marsyas Island orphanage, where six dangerous children live: a gnome, a Sprite, a Wyvern, an unidentifiable green blob, a Werpommern, and the antichrist. Linus has to put his fears aside and determine if they are likely to bring about the end of the days.

“But the children are not the only secret on the island. Your caretaker is the charming and enigmatic Arthur Parnassus who will do anything to protect his wards. As Arthur and Linus get closer, long-cherished secrets are revealed and Linus has to make a choice: destroy a house or watch the world burn.

“An enchanting story, masterfully told, The house in the sky-blue sea is about the deep experience of discovering an unusual family in an unexpected place – and realizing that the family is yours. “

Every third Tuesday of the month, the Intergenerational Book Club, a group of men and women of all ages from Thomaston and the surrounding communities, meets to share their opinions and ideas about book selection. Titles include Fiction, Biography and Other Nonfiction, Maine Authors and Subjects, Adults and Young Adults. Everyone is cordially invited to take part.

The selection for the book club discussion on July 20th will be The Toni Morrison Book Club by Juda Bennett, Winnifred Brown-Glaude, Cassandra Jackson and Piper Kendrix Williams.
