Atlanta United sign Ronald Hernandez on loan from Aberdeen

Atlanta United have taken another step this offseason to improve their depth of defense. The club announced on Thursday that they had loaned Ronald Hernandez from partner club Aberdeen in Scotland.

“Ronald is a young and talented defender and we are excited to add him to our roster,” said Carlos Bocanegra, vice president and technical director, Atlanta United. “Like many international players, he had to endure difficult circumstances last year and we are eager to give him the opportunity to assert himself in a new environment.”

Hernandez, 23, is a Venezuelan full-back with a lot of international experience. His 17 caps for La Vinotinto include such occasions as the Copa America and South American World Cup qualifiers.

After impressing with Stabaek in Norway, he moved to Aberdeen in January 2020. Unfortunately, his time in Scotland did not go according to plan as he has performed sparingly for the club and has struggled to see his family settle in due to the global pandemic.

Both the player and the club hope he will rediscover the form in which he won a place on the Venezuelan national team alongside Josef Martinez. If he can do that, then Atlanta has found quite a business.

Welcome to Atlanta, Ronald!
