KLFS stinks of food insecurity – Lindsay Advocate

Darryl James doesn’t look like he wants to lose this.

Kawartha Lakes Food Source (KLFS) is proud to announce the start of its fundraising campaign for the Stinky Fish Challenge 2021.

Local guides Darryl James (solo artist and bassist for The Strumbellas), Leanna and Luis Segura (local entrepreneurs and co-owners of Fresh FueLL / North Ward Coffee Co.), and Patrick Lynch (Team Brad Bird at MinCom Plus Realty) will put their taste buds at risk to get financial support for KLFS in the fight against food insecurity.

Luis and Leanna Segura.

The challenger who has raised the least amount of money by August 27 will have to eat a can of Surstromming. This lightly salted, fermented Baltic herring is specially ordered from Sweden and is considered the “smellyest” fish in the world.

In 2018, KLFS ran its first edition of this Stinky Fish Challenge and raised over $ 3,000. 2018 attendees included Police Chief Mark Mitchell, Community Advocate Mike Perry, and 91.9 BOB FM morning show hosts Bob and Julie. Out of a sense of community, all participants shared the stinking fish meal instead of covering the “loser†with a full plate.

You can make your donation between August 6th and 27th to save a local guide of your choice from having to eat a plate of smelly fish.

Keep track of who’s at the top by following Kawartha Lakes Food Source’s social media at @KawarthaLakesFoodSource. Plus, each challenger has a custom campaign page that you can use to make your donation easier!

“Every chance to help in this community,” said Patrick Lynch when asked why he wanted to do the challenge. “I grew up here, live here and will work hard to raise funds, to help, but also so that I don’t have to eat that stinky fish!”
