This Wednesday, September 15, Port of Mukran, Ems Maritime Offshore (EMO), Vestas and Parkwind signed the lease agreements for the O&M building that will serve the upcoming Arcadis Ost I wind farm. The signing ceremony in the presence of the Minister for Energy, Infrastructure and Digitization of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Christian Level, marks the beginning of the development of a 1,800 m2 structure in which up to 40 experts operate the 257 MW. The ARCADIS Ost I wind farm will be monitored and maintained.

The signing of the agreement follows closely the financial close of Arcadis Ost 1, which was signed at the beginning of the summer. The wind farm is being built in the German territorial waters of the Baltic Sea, northeast of the island of Rügen. It will generate green energy to power the equivalent of up to 290,000 households. Offshore installation work is scheduled to begin in 2022 and the wind farm is expected to be fully operational in 2023.

“I am very pleased that Port Mukran will now also be the base port for the maintenance and service of the Arkadis Ost 1 wind farm. The decision of the companies in favor of the port of Sassnitz consolidates its position as an important location for the offshore industry. But it also shows that Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s commitment to wind energy generation off its coast is not only a gain for climate protection, but also for the local economy – in the long term, â€said Christian level, the state’s energy minister.

“The favorable location with the shortest distance to the wind farm and a good logistical infrastructure make Sassnitz-Mukran the perfect starting point for the operation and maintenance of Arcadis Ost and other projects in the Baltic Sea region. Our project partners can rely on our experience and know-how when it comes to setting up and operating a modern service base. We look forward to working with them, â€explains Hauke Groeneveld, Head of Port & Logistics Services at EMO.

“Together with Vestas and Parkwind as strong partners, we will in future rely on an offshore service base geared towards sustainability”, emphasizes EMO Managing Director Marcel Diekmann and adds: “As an experienced service company, we are equipped for current and future projects in the Baltic Sea.”

Søren Hansen, VP of Service Operations at Vestas Northern & Central Europe said: “We are delighted to have selected the port of Mukran as the O&M base for Arcadis Ost 1. This milestone is a continuation of Vestas’ investment in Germany and we are pleased to be able to deliver long-term service orders and the associated profitability. Benefits for the Mukran region as part of the Arcadis Ost 1 project. The cooperation with Parkwind on this important project for Germany is excellent and we look forward to delivering our V174 9.5 MW turbines for the project from 2022.

Eric Antoons, Co-CEO of Parkwind commented: “We are delighted that the port of Mukran will become the O&M base of Arcadis Ost 1. Their understanding of the industry and their experience in offshore projects make them the ideal choice. Today, with our renowned partners and in the presence of Minister level, we can show what effects offshore wind development has on the local economy in terms of jobs and infrastructure. “
