A stolen Pomeranian has been returned to its owners.

It was a heartwarming moment when the little dog reunited with his loving family after being robbed in a yard on the 3000 block of 24th Avenue in Vernon on Tuesday night.

“After discovering that their little dog, Chocnut, was missing from their yard, the owner began to search the neighborhood for her pet,” said RCMP spokesperson in Vernon, Const. Chris Terleski.

The owner called police around 6:30 p.m. after a neighbor said he saw a woman carrying a small dog away from the area earlier.

Using the information provided by the witness, police identified a suspect and searched several locations in the city until 11 p.m., when, with the help of the public, officers located the suspect along with Chocnut. in the 2500 block of 27th Street.

The suspect was arrested without incident and Chocnut was returned to his family safely.

“People often wonder what the best part of being a police officer is. Well, that’s it, helping people, â€Terleski says.

“The outcome of this event highlights the important roles police and the public play in solving and preventing crime, and how it takes teamwork to keep our communities safe. We have an incredibly happy family who have been reunited with their beloved pet, and we’re glad we were a part of them. “
