JEF Ministers gathered today in Helsinki, Finland to set the roadmap on which the 10 Northern European nations of JEF will evolve to address common threats.
The JEF is a multinational force made up of 10 like-minded Northern European nations; Great Britain – as a framework nation – together with Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden.
Ministers today also signed a detailed military directive setting out the operational and logistical guidelines necessary to enable the JEF to deploy quickly and effectively in response to common threats to global security.
Since being fully operational in 2018, the JEF has continuously adapted to modern security challenges, including the increasing number of people emerging below the conflict threshold.
This guideline will form the overarching political framework within which the JEF can evolve as a concept and operate as a rapidly deployable force in order to master the reality of these challenges.

The Joint Expeditionary Force exemplifies partnership in action, as a unique coalition of capable and willing neighbors ready to operate in all areas and respond to crises across the region.
Today’s meeting provided a platform for fruitful discussions between ministers and officials, allowing them to examine how its members could use multiple state and military levers during an under-the-threshold crisis scenario, these types of threats becoming more common in the JEF’s area of ​​interest.
In a more uncertain, more competitive age, Mr. Heappey reaffirmed to JEF that Britain will continue to make a vital contribution to global security after the defense budget has increased by 24 billion armed forces.
After the activities for maritime integration in the Baltic Sea in March, the JEF countries will put this adjustment into practice for Ex JOINT PROTECTOR 21 this year.
