Kaliningrad, September 20. / TASS /. The Sovetsk missile corvette of Project 22800 of the Baltic Fleet returned to its home port in Baltiysk in the Kaliningrad region after successfully shooting down cruise missiles in the White Sea, the fleet’s press office reported on Monday.

The Sovetsk missile corvette successfully launched a calibration cruise missile from the White Sea to hit a coastal target on the Chisha test site in the north-western Arkhangelsk region, the press office said.

“The small rocket ship Sovetsk made a transit between the fleets from the North Sea to the Baltic Sea Fleet. The warship covered a distance of over 4,000 nautical miles and sailed on internal waterways through the White Sea – the Baltic Canal, Lake Ladoga, Neva, the Gulf of Finland and the Baltic Sea, “said a press office statement.

At the end of August, the crew of the Sovetsk missile corvette was stationed at the naval training areas of the Russian Northern Fleet, where they fired akal cruise missile at a coastal target on the Chizha test site. The data recorders show that the cruise missile successfully hit the coastal target at a distance of over 1,000 kilometers, the statement said.

“After the supplies had replenished and rested, the crew of the small rocket ship Sovetsk switched to carrying out the planned combat training measures for the Baltic Fleet,” said the press office.

The Karakurt-class missile corvettes of Project 22800 are a range of Russian multi-purpose green-water missile / artillery warships. The corvettes of this class, developed by specialists from the St. Petersburg Almaz Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation), are characterized by their high seaworthiness and driving characteristics. They are based on the most advanced domestic technologies that allow their effective use in fleet task forces in both northern and southern latitudes.

Karakurt-class corvettes displace about 800 tons, develop a speed of over 30 knots, and their seaworthiness is 15 days. They are armed with Calibr-NK cruise missiles and upgraded AK-176MA 76.2 mm artillery pieces.
