OAKLAND, California. – A 7-year-old Pomeranian Shetland Sheepdog mix named Cocoa was stolen from a parked car in Oakland, a terrible ordeal for the owner, who is a disabled man in a wheelchair.
Ralph Margado provided surveillance video on Broadway and Piedmont Avenue to show someone grabbing his father’s car, which was parked on the street in front of the Honda dealership, around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday
Service dog stolen from car in Oakland
A 7-year-old dog was stolen from a car parked on Broadway near Piedmont Avenue in Oakland. The owner, Leonard Margado, 74, is heartbroken and desperate for Cocoa, his Pomeranian Sheltie mix, to come home. It’s the newest case in the Bay Area involving a stolen pet.
“My dad is in a wheelchair and he’s just upset about the whole scene because it was his dog,” Margado said.
Leonard Margado, 74, has circled the block where the theft took place, handing out flyers and showing pictures of his dog, Cocoa, to passers-by.
“Please, I don’t care who you are. Bring my dog back,” he said. “That is my life. This is my family. I have him and my son. i need my dog He is my support.”
Margado, a retired machinist, says a person he spoke to on his laps upset him with his comments.
“He said, ‘You know, if you hadn’t left the dog in the car, you should have taken other precautions,’ and that wasn’t right,” he said. “How about a little empathy?”
He said he had a doctor’s appointment at 9 a.m. that day. It was pushed back to 11 a.m., and he and his son didn’t have enough money to keep parking in a garage. So Ralph Margado moved his Acura to a spot on Broadway.
“I wish I had never done that because when we parked out here on the street, that was all it took,” Ralph Margado said. “They looked in, saw Cocoa, grabbed him and ran away.”

Father and son are hoping someone will come forward with information. They offer a reward for Cocoa’s return, no questions asked.
For now, they are not giving up their search.
“We’re going to find that dog,” Ralph Margado said.
