A breakdown of the CUNA / League Advocacy AgendaOn the eve of the 2021 CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC), information on how to improve the financial well-being of Americans will be available.

“Credit unions work every day to improve the financial well-being of their members and to benefit the communities they serve. This work helps us move our advocacy agenda forward, ”said Ryan Donovan, CUNA’s chief advocacy officer. “With a new Congress and a new administration, we must step up our efforts to tell our story and reveal the implications in this new environment in order to keep our progress and seize the opportunities to advance our agenda.”

On the agenda is how the credit unions continue to serve the purpose on which they were founded more than 100 years ago, including $ 17.2 billion in savings from lower fees and better lending rates.

The materials also highlight the work of the credit unions during the pandemic, which includes the credit unions:

  • offer personalized solutions for members including 95% of credit unions offering loan modifications and 90% of credit unions offering fee waiver.
  • Manufacturing 204,000+ Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans of $ 9.7 billion averaging $ 47,624 each.
  • Manufacturing Commercial loans of $ 33 billion in 2020 will create more than 297.00 jobs.
  • Connect to local communities by serving meals to first responders, providing medical centers with personal protective equipment, and assisting food pantries.

CUNA and League Advocacy staff have also created an Advocacy 101 video which is available to CUNA GAC registrants upon request. You can find it by logging into the CUNA GAC platform, clicking on “Sessions” in the left menu and selecting “On Demand”. The session is titled “Credit Union Advocacy on Capitol Hill”.
