Catholic Church among the Valley’s largest PPP loan recipients

The Roman Catholic Church and affiliated organizations in Fresno received millions of dollars through the paycheck protection program, new data from the US Small Business Administration shows.

As long as the Church meets certain criteria set by the Small Business Administration – such as using at least 60% of the loan to cover payroll – the loan will be waived.

The SBA granted maximum loan amounts equal to 2.5 times the average monthly salary of a company, up to $ 10 million.

According to the Paycheck Protection Program, three local organizations affiliated with the Catholic Church have received loans.

The Department of Catholic Education of the Diocese of Fresno received a loan of between $ 5 million and $ 10 million. The loan was approved on April 28th and the loan has allowed the diocese to retain 498 education positions.

The non-profit organization called the Roman Catholic Bishop of Fresno received a loan of between $ 2 million and $ 5 million. The organization reportedly retained 433 employees and was approved on April 27.

Fresno Diocese Catholic Charities received a loan of between $ 150,000 and $ 350,000. The nonprofit has retained 32 employees as a result of the loan approved on April 9th.

Catholic church organizations in other parts of the valley also received PPP loans.

In Stockton, the Catholic Council for the Spanish-speaking Diocese of Stockton received between $ 1 and 2 million, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Stockton received between $ 350,000 and $ 1 million, and Catholic charities for the Diocese of Stockton received between $ 150,000 and $ 350,000 .

Central Catholic High School in Modesto received between $ 350,000 and $ 1 million.
