German professor of medicine honored with the Order of Friendship from Vietnam

BERLIN – The German medical professor Horst Klinkmann was awarded the Order of Friendship in recognition of his remarkable services to the health system and the bilateral relations of Vietnam.

On behalf of the President of Vietnam, Ambassador Nguyá»…n Minh VÅ© presented the 87-year-old with the highest award in the country for foreigners in the Vietnamese embassy in Berlin.

The diplomat thanked Klinkmann for his tireless commitment to Vietnam and the bilateral relations.

Throughout his life, the German professor worked to save human lives and to maintain the partnership between Vietnam and Germany not only in the health sector, but also in business, culture, sport and education.

Klinkmann expressed his pride in the honor and recognition by the state of Vietnam and said that he expected the friendship and partnership between the two peoples to expand in the future.

He said he was impressed by the independence of the Vietnamese people, which motivated him and his companions to work together to promote friendship with Vietnam and to support Vietnam.

Klinkmann is a senior consultant and ambassador for the health industry in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and co-founder of the BioCon Valley company.

As a student and later as a lecturer at the University of Rostock, one of the oldest universities in Germany, Klinkmann actively supported the university’s first Vietnamese medical students after the restoration of peace in Vietnam in 1954.

Klinkmann has helped foster links between Vietnam and Germany in education and medicine, which was reflected in the establishment of Việt Äức Friendship Hospital and Nghệ An’s Vinh General Hospital, and delivered much-needed medical supplies and medicines to Vietnam when that Country stuck in economic difficulties and suffering from severe shortages due to blockades and embargoes.

He also helped Vietnam with training measures as well as with material and equipment support in the field of dialysis. – VNS
