Stena Line will continue its expansion in the Baltic Sea in 2022, increasing both cargo and passenger capacity. The Swedish family-owned ferry company announced today that it will be using its two new 240-meter-long, fuel-efficient E-Flexer * ferries on Nynäshamn-Ventspils next year. Stena Line also announces plans to increase capacity on the Karlskrona-Gdynia route through the use of two large and modern ferries, Stena Scandica and Stena Baltica.

Over the past year, Stena Line has expanded in the Baltic Sea, increasing both cargo and passenger capacity to meet the growing demand for sea transportation in the region. Stena Line has already introduced new, large and modern ferries on its two Latvian routes Nynäshamn-Ventspils and Travemünde-Liepaja this year.

The family-owned Swedish ferry company announced today that its expansion in the Baltic Sea will continue in 2022. Stena Line will use its two new 240-meter-long, fuel-efficient E-Flexer * ferries on the Nynäshamn-Ventspils route next year. The ferries have a capacity of 1200 passengers, which is a 33% increase over existing ferries, and a total of 3600 meters of freight lane meters, which is an increase of 25%.

“We continue to grow together with our customers by strengthening our position and fleet across the Baltic Sea. The demand for capacity in the region continues to grow as freight customers continue to expand and post-pandemic travelers choose ferry as their preferred safe mode of transport. These large, modern and fuel efficient next generation ferries are the flagships in modernizing our fleet and developing sustainable shipping, â€says Niclas MÃ¥rtensson, CEO of Stena Line Group.

Up to 30% more energy efficient

Stena Line’s position as the market leader in sustainable shipping is clearly visible and the new ships are among the most energy-efficient RoPax ferries in the world. Thanks to the optimal construction of hulls, propellers, light bulbs and oars, the E-Flexer ferries are up to 30% more energy efficient than existing ships. The containers are delivered ready to gas to enable conversion to methanol or liquid natural gas fuel. The new ferries will be equipped with shore power when they call at port in order to reduce emissions, and the power connection will also enable a switch to battery hybrids in the future. The ship offers efficient loading and unloading with drive-through lanes on both levels.

“Stena Line’s Scandinavian heritage is clearly visible inside and the design is spacious and bright, with wonderful panoramic views. The new ships will offer our passengers a completely new on-board and travel experience on Ventspils-Nynäshamn, the shortest route between the Baltic States and Scandinavia, â€says Johan Edelman, Trade Director Baltic Sea North, Stena Line.

Capacity increase on Karlskrona-Gdynia

Stena Line today also announced its plans to further increase capacity on the Karlskrona-Gdynia route in 2022 with the use of the two large and modern 222-meter-long RoPax ferries Stena Scandica and Stena Baltica. The two Visentini ships have recently been extended and modernized and will offer 30% cargo capacity and a brand new modern on-board experience for drivers and passengers on the Karlskrona-Gdynia route.

The two 240-meter-long E-Flexer (MkII) ferries were developed in collaboration with Stena RoRo and are currently being built at the CMI Jinling Shipyard in Weihai, China, and are expected to be delivered in 2022. Stena Line previously unveiled the three 214-meter E-Flexer ferries Stena Estrid, Stena Edda and Stena Embla on the Irish Sea for the 2019-2020 period. The E-Flexer ferries are among the most energy-efficient RoPax ferries in the world and are up to 30% more energy-efficient than existing ships thanks to the optimal design of the hulls, propellers, light bulbs and oars.
