A STUDENT has revealed she has only £ 3 left for the next academic year after mixing up her loan application.

Shadna Ismail, from west London, expected to receive a maintenance grant of £ 3,000, but says her “heart stopped” when she saw her mistake.

The 19-year-old shared the bug on social media Thursday after failing to receive her first payment and checking her student funding account.

The University of Roehampton student posted a screenshot showing how her application was handled with just £ 3 to keep it year round.

The breakdown further shows how the payment has been split into two installments of 99 pence and one for £ 1.02 which will be paid out in the upcoming terms.

A tickled Shadna took to Twitter to share the slip and posted the screenshot with the caption, “I’m not requesting £ 3 instead of £ 3,000”.

Shadna’s post, which has received more than 40,000 likes since then, has got other social media users into hysteria.

@ A6Asap wrote, “Student Finance England didn’t even question the loan, that got me nuts.”

@imanahmed added, “Don’t worry, you can buy a Tesco meal offer at the end of the year.”

Twitter comment
People were surprised that the payment was not requested.

@bbyjewelx said, “Don’t you dare tell me they split it into three payments,
I know the person who worked on that laughed their ass on that shift. “

And @AFCHopeful joked, “They probably still won’t be able to pay it with their usurious interest.”

Biomedical Sciences student Shadna stated today: “In my application, when you were asked how much you wanted to take, I wrote ‘3k’ because I thought it was applicable and that they would understand, but they did they clearly do not.

“It was my fault that I should have written 3,000.

“They didn’t even email me to confirm it was correct, they just approved.

“It was only because they said I would make my first payment on April 21.

“At first I thought my eyes were going crazy and I sent it to my girlfriend to see if that’s what I saw.

“I’ve literally gone through every emotion, shock, laugh.

“I spoke to Student Finance and they told me what to do now.”

A spokeswoman for Student Loans Company said, “We appreciate that students have a lot to consider when they return to college at this point, and of course, it is easy for them to make mistakes.

“We process almost 2 million applications a year, many of which are processed automatically, and the Student Loan Company can only award funding on the basis of the information provided by the applicant.

“If we are made aware of a student mistake, we try to fix it quickly. We encourage all students to fill out their applications carefully, read their letters of authorization carefully and to contact us if something does not seem right. “
